Frequently Asked

Questions

  • Giclée (zhee-KLAY) prints are extremely high quality, durable reproductions typically made using a large format inkjet printer, which offers a wider range and depth of color and ability to print at very high resolutions.

This fine, micro-stream spraying method of printing, combined with thick, archival paper, renders the closest physical reproduction you can get to the original artwork and a long-lasting print that's resistant to fading and warping.

  • All prints made in my home studio are signed just below the painting in the lower right corner.

Larger format prints (16”×20”+) from my nationwide and international printmakers cannot be signed as each piece is usually shipped to you directly from their shop.

  • Tldr: These are entirely different mediums.

The screens on your monitor or devices use several (sometimes thousands) of tiny lights to project their displays. Each screen utilizes different settings for that display, some user dependent, such as brightness, colors, blue light, etc.

Prints, on the other hand, use light absorbing paper that a printer threw a bit of ink on. How well the colors saturate the paper also depends on its sheen, density, and actual whiteness. Brighter papers are amazing for making colors pop, but the papers use brightening agents that yellow the paper over time so we use Archival Quality paper instead. Our higher quality fine art papers tend to have Low OBA (Optical Brightening Agents). That means the paper’s whiteness is ever so slightly dimmer with natural tones. The lack of extra chemicals increases the paper’s longevity and make it far less prone to yellowing.

While these are very different mediums and may render Print colors slightly different from what you see on screen, we process all of our artwork to look as close as possible to the original piece.

  • Prints are currently available in standard 6×8, 8×10, and 11×14 print sizes. All of my paintings are printed with a 1 to 2.5 inch white border on larger sheets. If you would like a larger print size or canvas wrap, please get in touch for a quote.

6×8 prints fit inside a 9×12 frame with a standard mat opening of 6×8.

8×10 prints fit inside an 11×14 frame with a standard mat opening of 8×10.

11×14 prints fit inside a 16×20 frame with a standard mat opening of 11×14.

For larger sizes or canvas wraps, please get in touch for a quote from one of my printmakers who specializes in large-scale reproductions.

  • Prints featuring our original digital art use thick 300-310gsm, micropourous coated, archival grade paper that has a slight sheen and subtle texture.

Reproductions of our traditional paintings typically use the same as above but may also suite a matte, 300-315gsm, 100% cotton rag, archival grade paper.

Listings will include which type of paper is used for each artwork.

  • I use a Canon Pixma Pro-200 printer that provides quality art prints with incredible depth and clarity. It’s an absolute pain in the ass to set up and clean but absolutely worth every bit of stress.

  • There are 3 main reasons our home studio no longer offers borderless prints:

    1. A border not only protects the integrity of the artwork’s edges and composition - it also offers easier and safer handling of the print through printing, curing, packaging, shipping, mounting, and framing.

    2. I’m hoping to save my studio printer some grief and extend its life by prolonging the waste ink pads and reducing the ink buildup on the rollers.

    3. I cannot cut a straight line to save my life, even with a proper cutter. This means trimming down larger sheets for a borderless print would be wonky and we want so much better than that for our clients. We use professionally pre-cut fine art papers instead, which dictates the sheet size we use for each print size.

  • Your made-to-order prints direct from my studio are created within 1-3 business days of payment received, then 2-3 additional business days before shipping out to allow enough time for curing, inspection, and packaging.

This makes the overall time from print to ship around 3-6 business days.

Print times are based on queue and are subject to change in order to deliver the best quality prints in a reasonable time. We have yet to encounter any unforeseen delays but should that ever happen, you’ll be notified as soon as possible.

  • I inspect every print prior to shipment. Medium and Small Prints are then carefully packaged and shipped flat in an acid-free protective sleeve with a layer of glassine, set between two thick matboards, inside a rigid envelope.

Larger Prints will ship rolled in tubes (with glassine and an acid-free sleeve) for added protection as larger envelopes may get forcefully bent in transit even with extra boards.

  • To uncurl larger prints, please follow these steps:

    1. Carefully remove the print from the tube (you may need pliers if the caps are tight).

    2. Remove the protective sleeve and allow the print to breathe a few minutes.

    3. On a clean, flat surface, gently roll the print in the opposite direction (keep the glassine sheet on the print while rolling to protect the image).

    4. Gently place the print back in the tube for about 2 hours (humidity can impact time but 2 hours is usually more than enough).

    5. Remove the print from the tube and gently unfurl it to lay flat on a clean surface. After a few moments, any slight remaining curl should relax and the print should be fairly flat.

Troubleshooting: If the print does not lay flat and still curls significantly in the original packed direction, it did not have enough time in the tube after you rolled it. If it doesn’t lay flat and is curled in the direction you re-rolled the print, it was in the tube way too long and you can try reversing the roll one more time - but keep an eye on it as rolling stresses the paper.

Note: Please do not use heavy books in the corners to flatten the print. This doesn’t work well and takes ages for subpar results (you’ll still have some curl even after a day or two).

  • Each shipment comes with tracking details and insurance. The tracking number is emailed to the address you used on your order once the label is created and/or the package ships.

  • I ship across the United States with UPS and USPS.

If you live outside of the US, please get in touch and I’ll initiate a quote from one of my printmakers who provide international delivery.

  • Refunds are only issued if the package is lost or damaged in-transit by the carrier.

Returns and exchanges are not accepted as each piece is made to order.

If the package does not arrive or arrives damaged please let me know asap, and send a picture of the damage if applicable, so I can file a claim with the carrier and, depending on your preference, either issue an immediate refund or replace the print(s) at no additional cost to you.

Replacement prints are made-to-order and usually require an estimated 1 week turnaround time.
